What is the Center for Haitian Studies (CHS)mission? "Building bridges and improving lives." What is the role of the Center for Haitian Studies in a public health emergency? CHS serves as an "alternate facility" for primary health care in the event of a natural disaster.

How does CHS plan for emergencies?

CHS has procedures in place to ensure the execution of essential functions coordinated by the county and roster personnel with authority and knowledge of functions.

What is one experience or lesson-learned from an emergency response?

Transportation is probably one of the biggest issues that we always have to face. The community that we serve is basically an indigent community. Most people do not have access to transportation, or the condition of the streets does not allow them to leave their house. Our workers have to find the way to reach those people, particularly if they have to deliver medicines.

What is one piece of advice that CHS would give to other EPIC partners?

Be sure you know where to find the most accurate real-time information and secure a reliable system of communication with the available resources in the community.
