This July, the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) welcomed new Division Chief Army Col. Audra L. Taylor to the military’s blood program and bid “fair winds and following seas” to the departing division chief, Navy Capt. Roland L. Fahie.
Taylor is an experienced leader and is well-equipped for her new role; she has received a distinguished education in the medical and health science sector and is transitioning from the position of first female director of the Army Blood Program. There she actively participated in the implementation of Group O Low Titer Whole Blood (LTWOB), cold storage platelets (CSP) in theater, the blood management system and several ongoing research and development efforts.
“I am honored to continue my work with the Armed Services Blood Program and further the efficacy of our efforts to save the lives of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and their families around the world. It is my mission to implement improvements to the support we provide to those in need,” said Taylor.
Fahie began his term as ASBP division chief in 2014. As division chief, he worked with the Service blood programs to develop and implement the delivery of potent blood and blood products and supported technologies to maximize the tracking, safety and efficient delivery of these resources to the military community. Fahie’s contributions to ASBP global health engagements support blood safety programs to the Combatant Commanders around the world.
Fahie said, “To all of our donors, staff members and supporters, I could not have done my job without you. It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve these past four years as division chief of the military’s blood program.”
Taylor advocates a “one-team, one-fight” mentality between the different service branches, which is an integral trait of the program. Her resolve will doubtlessly lead to success in her term as ASBP division chief.
“Our program and our donors build a critical bridge between illness and health and between death and life,” said Taylor. “I hope to seize every opportunity we can to ensure that we fulfill the mission.”
