States try to get drug prices in check, and are getting rebuffed
States are taking on drug makers, trying to keep prescription costs in check — but pharma’s fighting back, as the New York Times writes. There have been 37 bills passed by 24 states to address mounting drug costs, many of which increase the transparency around price increases — along with PBM rebates and the like. California has a law that requires drug makers to give advance notice of cost hikes, for example.
But drug companies are attempting to block the California law, calling it in a suit “unprecedented and unconstitutional.” And, shock and surprise, PhRMA and BIO are backing the biopharmaceutical industry in this effort to wage war against state legislation.
