Open Payments Program Updates

On June 29, 2018 the Open Payments Program Year 2017 data was published. This data publication includes Program Year 2017 data as well as newly submitted and updated payment records for previous program years (Program Years 2013 – 2016) For Program Year 2017 reporting entities reported 11.54 million records consisting of $8.40 billion in payments and ownership and investment interests to physicians and teaching hospitals.

For Program Year 2017 payments for the three major reporting categories were:

• $2.82 billion in General Payments
• $4.66 billion in Research Payments
• $927 million in Ownership and Investment Interests
  Over the course of the Open Payments Program a total of 53 million records have been published amount to $33.42 billion on payments or transfers of value. Open Payments Program Updates

Covered Recipients (physicians and teaching hospitals) have until the end of the calendar year (December 31, 2018) to review and if necessary dispute data attributed to them that they believe to be inaccurately or incompletely reported. In order to initiate a dispute the covered recipient must be registered in the Open Payments system.
