- Increase in Acute Flaccid Myelitis — United States, 2018

An increase number of reports of patients having symptoms clinically compatible with acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) was noted in August 2018 with a median patient age of four years. Parents and caregivers are urged to seek immediate medical care for a child who develops sudden weakness of the arms or legs.
