New Infection Control Resources for Podiatry and Orthopedic and Pain Management Settings

New Infection Control Resources
for Podiatry and Orthopedic and Pain Management Settings

Infection Prevention Guides for Healthcare Settings
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Joint Commission release new infection control resources for podiatry and orthopedic and pain management settings. As healthcare delivery transitions from acute inpatient settings to outpatient settings, there is a growing need to address outbreaks and patient notification events related to lapses in infection control in outpatient settings. These resources tailor existing guidance to specialty areas with the aim of driving practice improvements and protecting patients and staff across diverse outpatient settings.
These free online resources are part of the ADOPT (Adaption and Dissemination of Outpatient Infection Prevention) Guidance, a three-year initiative that began in 2015 to adapt and enhance CDC guidance related to infection prevention and control (IPC) in outpatient settings.
They include:
The resources feature key recommendations such as IPC program and infrastructure information. They also cover several topics, including education and training, safe injection practices, medical device reprocessing, environmental cleaning, and more. We encourage you to use these guides as a foundation for developing facility-specific IPC plans and conducting routine audits to identify areas for improvement.
