A new fellowship aims to boost research in Africa
The NIH, the Gates Foundation, and the African Academy of Sciences are launching a new fellowship to bolster scientific research capacity in African countries. The groups just announced they’ve selected 10 African scientists who will spend two years training at NIH labs under principal investigators who share the same research interests. Their studies will tackle a range of issues, including malaria, diabetes, and child health. The researchers will then head back to their home institutions, where they’ll receive another two years of support to set up their own labs and carry on their research.
