Where’s Big Tech?

By the numbers and by the expectations, big tech companies are among the most important in health care. But the most visible sign of the likes of Google, Amazon, and Apple here? In most cases, it’s an executive or two participating in panel discussions. (Google’s Dr. Toby Cosgrove, for instance, on Monday spoke on stage at the main conference.)

Amazon declined to comment on its JPM presence. Spokespeople for Google, Apple, and Alphabet’s life sciences unit Verily didn’t return STAT’s request for comment.

At least one Big Tech company is using JPM for a health-care coming-out party of sorts. Uber, which is trying to build its medical transport business, has a larger presence than in past years. And it hosted a party Tuesday night at its office on Market Street — a first for the ride-sharing company during JPM Week.

You have to wonder: How long it will be until we see these companies’ CEOs presenting to investors on the JPM main stage — slotted alongside the likes of Pfizer and Gilead and Novartis?
