A growing number of adults are underinsured

(COMMONWEALTH FUND)
A growing number of people are “underinsured” in the U.S., according to a new report from the Commonwealth Fund. People who are underinsured might have high deductibles and significant out-of-pocket medical expenses relative to their income. Among adults who were insured all year, 29 percent were underinsured in 2018, up from 23 percent in 2014. The group that saw the biggest increase in underinsured rates: people with insurance through their jobs. But people who buy insurance through the individual market or ACA marketplaces are still the most likely to be underinsured, according to the report.
