China investigating plasma product potentially tainted with HIV
Authorities in China are investigating whether more than 12,000 units of a blood plasma product were contaminated with HIV. The Shanghai Food and Drug Administration says authorities ordered a Chinese pharmaceutical company to launch an emergency recall of a batch of IV immunoglobulin, which is produced from blood plasma and used to treat a wide range of immune conditions. Health officials have warned hospitals and health facilities to stop using doses from that batch and keep tabs on patients who have already received the drug. They haven’t said how many patients received the product.
