Gottlieb’s resignation jolts health care community
FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who has the led the agency since May 2017, announced his resignation yesterday and will leave his post in a month. He has not publicly stated a reason for leaving, but he told friends that his commute to D.C. from his family’s home in Connecticut was wearing on him. During nearly two years at the helm of the FDA, the agency approved generic drugs in record numbers, and Gottlieb put a focus on sparking the development of new drugs and regulating e-cigarettes. But his exit has many in health care, who largely adored Gottlieb, nervous at best and frightened at worst. Read more.
