Using electronic health records to identify adverse drug events in ambulatory care: a systematic review.

This systematic review found that most studies use electronic health records as a data source to identify adverse drug events in ambulatory settings retrospectively. The authors conclude that the potential for electronic health records to facilitate detection of adverse drugs events in real time has not been realized.
