Preserving Title X protections and other D.C. happenings
It’s a busy day in Washington: The House Energy and Commerce Committee is holding a hearing this morning about the Title X program that provides health care funding for low-income women and families. Earlier this year, the Trump administration issued a rule to prevent facilities from getting funding if they provide abortion or refer patients to abortion providers, but several states challenged the rule and a federal judge in April issued an injunction against it going into effect. Lawmakers will hear today from family planning and reproductive health experts on preserving Title X protections.
A couple other events of note: Medical experts are speaking at a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing on the “inadequate” response to the opioid crisis, and over at the Senate Aging Committee, officials from the FDA, HHS, and CMS are talking about how their agencies are tackling high prescription drug prices.
