Final Recommendation Statement: Screening for Asymptomatic Bacteriuria in Adults

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force released today a final recommendation statement on screening for asymptomatic bacteriuria in adults. The Task Force found that pregnant people should be screened for bacteria that can lead to harmful urinary tract and kidney infections. Non-pregnant adults should not be screened. To view the recommendation, the evidence on which it is based, and a summary for clinicians, please go here. The final recommendation statement can also be found in the September 24, 2019 online issue of JAMA.
The Task Force has updated the format of its recommendation statements for clarity, to reduce duplication of information, and support implementation. This is the first recommendation statement to be published in the updated format. Please see the accompanying Viewpoint article in the September 24, 2019 issue of JAMA.
