California wants to make its own generics
California is trying to take more action to bring down drug prices: Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed that the state sell its own generic drugs.
The idea is to contract with manufacturers to create the medications that will be sold under the state’s own label, STAT’s Ed Silverman writes. Details remain scant, but look for more details in a budget proposal expected to be unveiled later today.

“A trip to the doctor’s office, pharmacy or hospital shouldn’t cost a month’s pay,” Newsom said in a statement. “The cost of healthcare is just too damn high, and California is fighting back.”
