Inside STAT: This advocate wants mental health on the ballot in 2020

For Chuck Ingoglia, president and CEO of the D.C. nonprofit National Council for Behavioral Health, mental health is a winning issue for the presidential election this year. His organization conducted a presidential primary poll and found that large majorities of New Hampshire voters believe the federal government isn’t doing enough to address the nation’s addiction and mental health challenges. STAT’s Lev Facher spoke with Ingoglia about his vision for how behavioral health will be featured in this year’s election, why opioid use is often the main focus of substance abuse discussions, and how the drug pricing debate affects mental health patients.
