Nearly a third of U.K. doctors report burnout
A small new survey of doctors in the U.K. finds that almost a third of them feel burned out from their jobs. Here’s more:
- The study: Researchers surveyed more than 1,600 U.K. physicians across different specialties and stages in their career.
- The findings: Almost 32% of respondents said they have experienced burnout. A quarter of physicians reported secondary traumatic stress from hearing about others’ trauma. More than 30% also scored low on deriving satisfaction from their jobs and helping others. Those in emergency medicine reported the highest rates of burnout, while OB-GYNs were most likely to report satisfaction from their jobs.
- Coping: Many doctors said they coped by just accepting the situation. Relying on emotional support and distraction were also frequently used strategies.
