AHRQ Continues Interest and Support of Diagnostic Safety in 2020
AHRQ outlined its ongoing support for research to solve the problem of diagnostic errors in a Federal funding notice published on Dec. 27, 2019. Improving diagnostic safety is a key priority for AHRQ and for Congress, which gave funding to the Agency to address this problem in 2019. In a newly published Special Emphasis Notice, the Agency outlines its continued interest in diagnostic safety research through 2020 and beyond. Key areas of interest are: quantifying the incidence of diagnostic errors; understanding what contributes to these errors; and learning more about the link between diagnostic errors and outcomes, including adverse events.
