Students play explainer in new STEM writing contest
The New York Times’ Learning Network has teamed up with Science News to launch a new STEM writing contest for students. Those ages 13-19 are eligible to participate, and will have to explain to a general audience — in 500 words or fewer — why a scientific question they find interesting is of importance, and why answering that question will be relevant to the broader field. The topic can come from any field within science. Entrants have to ensure their write-up is engaging enough to capture readers’ attention, as well as quote research or experts in the subject area. Winners will have their entries published on the Times’ Learning Network.
