Amid outbreak, an Apple Watch study could become a test case in remote research
The coronavirus has disrupted a highly anticipated Apple Watch study, but the trial could wind up being a test case for remote research. The Heartline Study, jointly run by Apple and Johnson & Johnson, will follow seniors — some of whom may have undetected heart disease — over two years. The researchers will see what happens when participants wear an Apple Watch or get health tips through their iPhone.
“People can do this from isolation, from the comfort of their home,” a J&J exec told STAT. “They can enroll in the study; they can do all of their participation activities simply at home.”
