U.S. sees first coronavirus deaths as cases spread in the community

Washington state this weekend reported two deaths in the U.S. from the novel coronavirus as the state also battles the first outbreak of the illness at a long-term care facility. The deaths, both related to the LifeCare nursing home in Kirkland, Wash., make contract tracing all the more urgent, as STAT's Eric Boodman explains. More than 50 people in the  facility are being tested for the illness. A 50-year old man with underlying health symptoms was the first person to die in the U.S. of the illness. Three more diagnosed cases, including a man in his 70s who was the second person to die of the virus in the U.S., were from LifeCare. California and Oregon also reported cases of community spread over the weekend, while New York, and Florida saw their first cases of Covid-19 in people with a travel history, bringing the overall number of U.S. cases to more than 80.
