Program to Promote Adherence to Standards of Professional Conduct Improves Staff Perceptions of Patient Safety Culture and Reduces Disruptive Clinician Behavior
As part of its Setting the Standard for Professional Behavior initiative, embedded within the organization's patient safety program, Catholic Healthcare Partners developed a multipronged approach to addressing disruptive clinician behavior. Strategies included compiling and distributing a toolkit that includes various programs and resources that senior leaders can use to set and enforce standards of professional conduct; developing institution-specific action plans for implementing toolkit components; and instituting patient safety leadership WalkRounds within system hospitals. The program enhanced staff perceptions of the culture of patient safety and improved professional conduct, including reducing incidents of disruptive behavior.
Moderate: The evidence consists of pre- and post-implementation comparisons of key measures included on AHRQ's Hospital Survey of Patient Safety Culture, along with post-implementation anecdotal reports from staff.
