AHRQ Stats: Increased Suicide Rates in Rural Areas

From 1999 to 2015, suicide rates among American Indians and Alaska Natives in nonmetropolitan areas increased from about 21 to 34 per 100,000 people. Rates also increased among whites, from 17 to 25 per 100,000, and among blacks, from 7 to 8 per 100,000. National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report

This Rural Health Care chartbook is part of a family of documents and tools that support the National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report (QDR). The QDR includes annual reports to Congress mandated in the Healthcare Research and Quality Act of 1999 (P.L. 106-129). This chartbook includes a summary of trends across measures of rural health care from the QDR and figures illustrating select measures of rural health care. A PowerPoint version is also available that users can download for presentations.
