In the year since Nicole Smith-Holt’s son Alec died after rationing his insulin, the Minnesota mother has protested high insulin prices at the state capitol and met with a representative from insulin maker Eli Lilly. This week, she and another mother whose child died under similar circumstances plan to travel to the Cambridge, Mass., office of insulin maker Sanofi. They will also be bringing their children’s ashes. “It’s a visual reminder for them of what’s at stake,” says Smith-Holt, who will join activists in a “die-in” at the Sanofi office on Friday. The protest will take place as anger over insulin prices in the U.S. swells. More here.
