Recovery LIVE! Recovery Supports that Empower People in Treatment and Recovery in their Parenting Roles

Thursday | February 28, 2019 | 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET

SAMHSA’s Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS TACS) invites you to join national experts in a conversation about the connections between parenting, treatment, and recovery. This virtual event will explore the ways peer-run and community organizations assist individuals in achieving their goals for parenting and recovery.
Many adults seeking recovery are parents and identify caring for their children and strengthening relationships with them as primary recovery goals (Reupert, Price-Robertson, & Maybery, 2017). Parents in recovery may need additional support in meeting their family’s needs, navigating systems, building a network of support, and balancing competing demands on their time.
Presenters will share strategies for providing treatment and recovery supports to help parents balance their own treatment and recovery needs with the needs of their children. Presenters will also highlight promising models for connecting parents with trained peers who can offer recovery-oriented parenting supports.
This event aligns with critical SAMHSA strategic priorities as described in SAMHSA’s FY2019–2023 Strategic Plan to advance and expand treatment and recovery support services to individuals, families, and communities. For example, these priorities include ensuring that substance-exposed infants and their mothers are identified, treated, and receive long-term follow-up to monitor/prevent long-term consequences.
Join us for this free, interactive virtual event, moderated by BRSS TACS Deputy Director Steven Samra.
