Speaking of Canada: the health minister gives pharma closed-door reassurances
The Canadian government told pharmaceutical industry representatives that "all options" are on the table when it comes to the White House’s drug importation proposal at a closed-door meeting last Tuesday, STAT’s Lev Facher scoops. The meeting is the latest in a series of gatherings convened by Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Canada’s health minister, following the Trump administration’s announcement last month that it would work to facilitate drug imports from north of the border.
A slide deck Lev obtained also noted — in very polite fashion, mind you — that the U.S. is the only industrialized country not to impose price controls or profit limitations on prescription drug manufacturers. It’s unclear what the Canadians will do in response, but they have quite a few options — their parliament could even consider legislation that allows the health minister to ban drug exports outright. More from Lev here.
