Canada warns the Trump administration its importation plan will go nowhere

Here’s a Friday-afternoon news dump you might have missed: Canada’s acting ambassador to the U.S. met last week with John Brooks, Azar’s drug pricing adviser, and Joe Grogan, Trump’s domestic policy chief. Her message: It’s not happening.

“Canada’s market for pharmaceuticals is too small to have any real impact on U.S. drug prices,” the ambassador, Kirsten Hillman, said in a statement. “Canada represents only 2% of global pharmaceutical consumption vs. America’s 44%. … Not only are we too small of a market, Canada cannot increase its domestic pharmaceutical drug supply to meet U.S. demand.”
