Millennials are likely looking at ‘less healthy, less wealthy’ future

new report finds that when it comes to economic challenges as a consequence of health, millennials — who were generally born between 1981 and 1996 — will be facing a future of “less health [and] less wealth." Here’s more:
  • Overall trends: Millennials are generally less healthy than people from Generation X in terms of both physical and mental health. And if current trends continue, millennials could have 40% higher mortality rate than Gen Xers of the same age.
  • Increased costs: The decline in health will also mean an increased need for medical care. The worst-case scenario could see millennials dealing with costs that are 33% higher than their Gen X counterparts dealt with at their age.
  • Lower income: Another result of poorer health is likely to be stagnant wages from reduced or missed work. Millennials could have up to $4,500 less per year in income compared to Gen Xers when they were the same age.
