Preschoolers may be getting more screen time than recommended
New research suggests that young children may be getting more screen time than recommended. The WHO and other pediatric societies suggest no more than an hour daily in front of phones, tablets, or TVs for preschoolers, but one study finds that nearly 80% of 2-year-olds and 95% of 3-year-olds are exceeding these limits.
Another study followed preschoolers until they were 8 years old and found that screen time increased from half an hour daily when they were a year old to 2 hours two years later. These children also ended up with almost 30 more minutes of screen time when they were 8 years. Girls and children whose parents had attended graduate school were less likely to have excess screen time compared to their peers.
