Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched new web pages on devices used for the condition of temporomandibular disorders (TMD), including temporomandibular joint (TMJ) implants.
Some estimates suggest that over 10 million Americans are affected by TMD (NIH/NICDR). Because of the large population affected, the FDA is helping ensure consumers have access to information about TMD devices. The new web pages:
- Provide information on FDA-approved devices that are used for the condition of TMD, including TMJ implants
- Share information for patients considering TMJ implants
- Present postmarket surveillance study information, including the study results
