Binge drinkers report an increased intake
Those who binge on alcohol report having more drinks now than in the past, according to new CDC data. Binge drinking is defined as five or more drinks in one sitting for men, and four or more such drinks for women, and accounts for 10% of deaths in those ages 20-64. In 2011, binge drinkers reported having 472 alcoholic drinks on average, while that figure rose to 529 in 2017. Those aged 35-44 saw a nearly 27% increase in their consumption between 2011-2017, while there was a 23% increase in those aged 45-64. Those without a high school diploma and with a household income of less than $25,000 were most likely to report a rise in their binge drinking over the six-year period.
