First U.S. case of novel virus spreading in China reported in Washington state
A man in Washington state is the first U.S. person to be diagnosed with the illness caused by the new coronavirus that emerged in Wuhan, China. The man, who is in his 30s, recently traveled there, and is in good condition, according to the CDC. The U.S. is now the fifth country outside China to report cases of the new infection, which causes pneumonia. The WHO also raised the possibility that the virus may be transmitted in a sustained manner from person-to-person — if confirmed, it would make the ongoing outbreak much more difficult to contain. More than 400 people in China alone have been diagnosed with the illness, and nine people have died. Three U.S. airports are currently screening passengers arriving from Wuhan, but two more — Atlanta and Chicago’s O’Hare — will start doing so soon.
