Inside STAT: Goop’s pseudoscience ministry comes to Netflix 

Dr. Jen Gunter, an OB-GYN famous for her takedowns of Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop and the products the company promotes, takes a sneak peek and a critical look at the upcoming Netflix show “The Goop Lab” in a new First Opinion for STAT. The six-episode series, which premieres next Friday, covers topics such as female sexuality, cold therapy, and psychedelics — but not in a very meaningful way, Gunter writes. In one episode, Goop employees go to Jamaica to take mushrooms. “I knew very little about the medical use of psychedelics before watching this episode and knew very little about the medical use of psychedelics after watching the show,” she says. The episode also features a psychiatrist talking about antidepressants’ bad side effects without going into more detail or mentioning how the drugs have helped millions, a fear-stoking tactic that is "classic Goop," Gunter writes.
