Final Webcast: A Future Without Discrimination and Discriminatory Practices

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

Webcast Series About Perceptions and Misunderstanding Around SUDs in Health Care Settings

Power of Perceptions
SAMHSA, together with Massachusetts General Hospital’s Recovery Research Institute, will air the fourth and final webcast from the series The Power of Perceptions and Understanding: Changing How We Deliver Treatment and Recovery Services. The series aims to educate health care professionals about the problems of discriminatory practices and inaccurate perceptions in dealing with individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs) and related conditions. This final webcast will feature a panel of experts in the field of addiction treatment, research, and policy discussing subconscious biases, preconceived notions, and communication styles that can deter patients from sharing information about alcohol and drug use, seeking help, or even identifying themselves as a person living in recovery.

Register for the Series

The webcast series is targeted to health care professionals at all levels who are often the first contact for addressing a patient’s SUD, but is open to all. Participants can earn up to 4.0 free CME/CE credits. Previous webcasts are available on SAMHSA's website.
