Inside STAT: Seema Verma talks health care price transparency
Health care prices are notoriously difficult for consumers to track down. In a new First Opinion for STAT, Seema Verma — the director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services — says that lack of transparency around pricing is partly to blame for high health care costs. "If people don’t know the cost or quality of health care services, they cannot seek out the highest quality services at the lowest cost, as they do in any other industries," she writes.
