Youth tobacco use soars, fueled by e-cig popularity
The number of young people using tobacco products is climbing, fueled by the growing popularity of e-cigarettes, according to a new report from the CDC. About 4.9 million middle and high school students reported using a tobacco product in the past month in 2018, up from 3.6 million in 2017. E-cigarettes were the only type of tobacco product that saw an uptick in use. More than 20 percent of high schoolers and 5 percent of middle schoolers said they'd vaped in the past month. The report also found that about two out of every five current tobacco users are using two or more types of products.
