Women, those under 65 more likely to not take diabetes medicine as prescribed
Women and those under the age 65 who have been diagnosed with diabetes are least likely to take their medication as prescribed due to high costs, according to new research. Researchers surveyed adults with diabetes and found that some 15% of women did not take the recommended medication, and neither did some 18% of people under the age of 65. For those over 65, people with insurance through Medicare were least likely to take their medicines according to doctor’s orders. More than a third of those who were uninsured were also more likely to deviate from their prescriptions. But across all categories, more people asked their doctor for a lower-cost prescription than not taking medication as prescribed.
