Nearly 40 U.K. research agencies failed to report trial results despite a warning

Despite a warning earlier this year to begin sharing clinical trial results, nearly 40 research entities in the U.K. have failed to do so. In January, the British House of Commons’ Science and Technology Select Committee warned research agencies who had failed to properly report clinical trial results that they had six months to do so — and U.K. law mandates reporting within a year of a trial’s end — but 33 research trusts of the National Health Service as well as six universities have yet to report any results. There were improvements elsewhere: Since January, rates of reporting increased from around 48% to nearly 64%. Two universities and three NHS trusts went from making no data available to a 100% reporting rate. The committee is planning on meeting next week to review the new findings.
