Final Research Plans: Aspirin Use for the Primary Prevention of Cancer and Aspirin Use for the Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Events

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force posted today two final Research Plans on the use of aspirin as a preventive medication. The first is on aspirin use for the primary prevention of cancer. This topic was previously titled “Aspirin Use for the Prevention of Colorectal Cancer” when it was posted for public comment from June 13 to July 10, 2013. In response to public comments asking for a more integrated approach to recommendations on aspirin use, the Task Force broadened the scope of the final Research Plan to include aspirin use to prevent all types of cancer, including colorectal cancer.
The Task Force also posted today the final Research Plan on the use of aspirin for the primary prevention of cardiovascular events. The draft Research Plan for this topic was posted for public comment from July 11 to August 7, 2013. The Task Force reviewed all of the comments that were submitted and took them into consideration as it finalized the Research Plan.
