World’s first vagina museum opens

Over the weekend, visitors to London's Camden Market saw the launch of the world's first vagina museum. Founder Florence Schecter, a biochemistry graduate student who first started staging the project as a series of pop-ups in the U.K. in March 2017, has said her inspiration for the museum came from seeing there had been a penis museum in Iceland since 1997 — but no gynecologic equivalent. The inaugural exhibition — which will run through February next year — is titled “Muff Busters: Vagina Myths and How to Find Them” and is dedicated to dispelling misconceptions about periods and birth control, and helping museum visitors become more knowledgeable about female anatomy. Despite now finding a regular place to host exhibitions, the museum is planning on working toward a more permanent location in the future.
