Four Ebola response workers killed in the Congo
Four people who were working to contain the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo were killed last week after attacks on two response locations. Another six people were also injured. Three of the deaths occurred during an ambush of a camp where nearly 200 response workers were housed. The fourth — of a policeman guarding response workers — happened during a separate attack at a coordination office in the town of Mangina. The episode has led the WHO and other agencies in the area to withdraw teams from a location that was considered important in the fight against Ebola. The new incident is also the latest in such attacks since the current outbreak began in August 2018: There have been 386 attacks on response workers, with at least seven deaths and 77 injuries.
