Insys execs are going to prison

The lengthy legal proceedings against Insys, the company that bribed doctors into prescribing a deadly painkiller, have reached the incarceration stage.

Yesterday, Michael Babich, the company’s former CEO, got sentenced to 30 months for his role in the conspiracy, which proliferated Subsys, an under-the-tongue spray containing the highly addictive fentanyl. Sunrise Lee, an Insys sales director, got a year and a day for her part. Earlier this month, three Insys executives received sentences in excess of two years. Each prison term has come in far below what prosecutors requested.

Today, we’ll find out what becomes of John Kapoor, the company’s billionaire founder, and Alec Burlakoff, the former sales executive who dressed up in a Subsys costume in an Insys-produced rap video meant to motivate reps.
