Majority of recent veterans report physical health concerns
A survey of more than 9,500 U.S. veterans who had recently left active service finds that health is a top concern as they readjust to civilian life. Here’s more:
- Overall trends: 53% of respondents who were surveyed within the first year of leaving active military duty said they had a chronic health condition. A third reported having a mental health condition.
- Health conditions: Around 40% of respondents reported dealing with chronic pain. Almost a quarter reported anxiety and depression. Fewer than 10% said they had high cholesterol.
- Demographic differences: More men reported being satisfied with their health than women. Those who had been deployed to war zones reported more health concerns than veterans who hadn’t served there.
