Outbreak could interfere with pharma supply chain
Worldwide pandemic is the primary concern about the current coronavirus outbreak, no doubt. But the shutdowns resulting from the pathogen’s spread could have a downstream effect on health care, as well: The pharmaceutical industry may see disruption in its supply chain. After all, China’s a primary global player in the market for active pharmaceutical ingredients, STAT’s Ed Silverman writes.
Although the central hub for China’s ingredient production is far from Wuhan — the outbreak’s epicenter — more lockdowns may occur as the virus proliferates.
“The time to worry is now,” one global quality compliance expert told STAT.
