Community-Based Providers Effectively ePrescribe Controlled Substances
Research supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality suggests that electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) is acceptable to prescribers working in community settings. “Early experience with electronic prescribing of controlled substances in a community setting,” appeared in the June volume of the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. The authors surveyed 102 prescribers who had been enabled to prescribe controlled substances electronically. The majority of the prescribers had sent at least one prescription for a controlled substance electronically, and expressed satisfaction with workflow, accuracy of the prescription, and ability to monitor use of the prescription.
