What you need to know about the December 15th deadline

Dept. of Health & Human Services
We are off to a solid start since Open Enrollment began last month, but there’s still more work to do.
Millions of people are visiting HealthCare.gov to check out affordable coverage options and the improved consumer experience, and people across the country are renewing their coverage or signing up for the first time.
While you can shop and sign up for affordable health coverage that fits your needs and budget any time between now and February 15, this Monday, December 15 marks one of the first deadlines for Open Enrollment.

Here’s what you need to know:

If you want your coverage to start on January 1, the deadline to enroll is December 15.
For returning customers, it pays to shop. If you enrolled in Marketplace coverage last Open Enrollment, you should come back to HealthCare.gov and update your information – including information about your income – so that your tax credits and financial assistance are properly calculated.  Even if none of your information has changed, you may still be able to get a better deal.  If you do not update your information, you might not get the financial help you deserve. With financial assistance, 8 in 10 returning customers to the Marketplace can get coverage for $100 or less.  It's easier than ever to come back to HealthCare.govand update your application.

Most consumers, who already have Marketplace insurance and do not take action by the December 15 deadline, will be automatically enrolled by their insurance company into their current plan or a plan with similar benefits.
Update your information and enroll today by visiting HealthCare.gov.
If you have questions or need to find someone who can help you in person – you can find local help at Localhelp.healthcare.gov or call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 (TTY users should call 1-855-889-4325). The new window-shopping tool at HealthCare.govmakes it is easier than ever to find options available in your area.
So as we near one of the first deadlines for Open Enrollment, I encourage everyone who is already covered through the Marketplace to come back, shop, and find out what savings you qualify for.
Sincerely,
Secretary Burwell
