Advancing the Science of Patient Narrative Collection and Reporting

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s CAHPS researchers are leading the effort to develop and test a standardized protocol for collecting patient narratives that would be useful to both providers and consumers. Their goal has been to create a short set of questions that can be added to the CAHPS Clinician & Group Survey. The research team is also exploring various approaches to publishing patient narratives in a comparative quality report for consumers.
