to Promote Patient Safety
A recent AHRQ Impact Case Study highlights St. Jude Children's Research Hospital’s
use of the Surveys on Patient Safety CultureTM (SOPS) Hospital Survey to obtain staff
feedback on ways to improve medical care and safety. Based on survey feedback,
St. Jude launched a hospital-wide initiative in 2017 to improve patient handoffs and
introduce the use of I-PASS, an evidence-based bundle of interventions that improves
and standardizes handoffs of patient care during shift changes. Each year, more
St. Jude staff are participating in the survey and providing feedback, helping to direct
patient safety improvement opportunities.
