The August issue of Health Communication Science Digest (HCSD or Digest) is now available athttp://www.cdc.gov/ healthcommunication/ ScienceDigest/index.html.
This month, the Digest contains multiple articles that examine a broad array of message design topics (Crook and Dailey; Gollust et al.; Iles et al.; Knoblauch et al.; McGlone et al.; Williams and Grundstein; Yang and Pittman). On a related matter, Rising and Bol investigate the effects of nutrition labels.
Social media is again a popular topic in this month’s Digest (Eckert et al.; Jake-Schoffman et al.; Parackal et al.). In two traditional media related articles, Armon examines how experts frame health risks in media interviews, and Hitt et al., report on coverage of breastfeeding in newspapers.
The Digest covers multiple other interesting topics this month. Karl et al., evaluate a social marketingintervention; and Nguyen et al., examine tobacco related health information sources and information seeking behavior. In other articles, Barbrook et al., advocate the use of agent-based modeling in public health communication, and Davis et al., demonstrate the predictive validity of perceived effectivenessmeasures in the context of antismoking ads.
This month’s Digest wraps up with a systematic review on visual communication (Stellemanns et al.), and a report on an expert roundtable’s proposals to further the health literacy agenda (Poureslami et al.).
