The District Public Health Office (DPHO), Chitwan [Province Three], has confirmed the death of woman from scrub typhus.

The woman in her mid 20s of Rajahar of Nawalparasi district was admitted [Provinces Four and Five] to Community Hospital, Chitwan, on [5 Aug 2017], died on [6 Aug 2017] in course of treatment, said vector controller at the DPHO, Ram Kumar KC.

Out of 109 people infected with the disease in last fiscal year, 4 died, according to data with the DPHO. Likewise, out of 264 people, who underwent scrub typhus test, till the date from [16 Jul 2017], 75 people were found infected with the disease.

According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), the disease has been detected in more than 27 districts with more than 100 people infected with it. Of the infected, Chitwan recorded the highest number.

A child died and 3 others were taken ill due to scrub typhus in Khalsa Chintang Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality and Parkhibas Municipality in Dhankuta district [Province One].

The identity of the deceased is yet to be established. She [died] during the course of treatment at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

According to Dr Madan Kumar Upadhyay, senior medical superintendent of the District Hospital, Dhankuta, 3 children have been tested positive.
